Ben’s connection to the Army Cadets goes way back. He joined as a child in Solihull after many years as a Cub Scout, enjoying the outdoor activities and learning new skills. The ACF felt like the perfect next step once he became a teenager, and he subsequently went on to serve 22 years in the Regular Army.
Now, as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV), he's keen to pass on his experience to the next generation. Over half-term, Ben spent a week at the Cadet Training Centre, helping new recruits with activities like drills, fieldcraft, and safe handling of air rifles. The camp ended with a passing-off parade, a proud moment for everyone involved.
"I wanted to make a difference and support the newest cadets," Ben says. "and the five extra leave days made it possible, without affecting my family time or work commitments. It was a busy and fun week for everyone involved, and I look forward to continuing to volunteer with Wiltshire ACF again in the future."
But our commitment to supporting ex-military staff doesn’t stop there. We’re part of the Armed Forces Covenant and offer a range of benefits to help ease the transition from military to civilian life. These include access to training and certification, a supportive work environment, and mental health resources. We’re also proud of initiatives like the Civilian Work Attachment (CWA) programme, which helps service leavers gain work experience at Forfusion, mentoring, CV support and key employability skills. It’s all part of our ongoing dedication to giving back to those who’ve served, and ensuring they feel supported and valued in their civilian careers.
